about 1 year agoCongratulations to the CK Hindu Cultural Association on a very successful event held this weekend in honour of Navartri.
Navartri is one of two major festivals significant to local Hindu communities. To learn about the second, Deepavali, register for our first DEIJ Lunch and Learn happening on November 10th. Find more information on CK Central.

Event: October 12 - Twin Flames Concert
about 1 year agoThe St. Clair Catholic District School Board (SCCDSB) and the Chatham Capitol Theatre have partnered up to present a pair of musical performances to ensure that the conversation about truth and reconciliation extends beyond Orange Shirt Day.
The board and the theatre will be hosting two shows with the 'Twin Flames' - an Indigenous husband and wife duo, Chelsey June, who is Métis with Algonquin Cree heritage and Jaaji, who is Inuk and Mohawk from Nunavik and Kahnawake.
On Wednesday morning, a performance will be given for school groups.

Webinar: Who are Low German-Speaking Mennonites?
about 1 year agoBelonging to a cultural or religious group is an important part of many people's everyday lives. This is especially true among the Low German-speaking community and this engaging webinar will help address the sensitivities to be aware of when working and interacting with the Low German speaking population.
Anne Wall, Elgin St. Thomas Family and Children's Services kinship worker, will give an overview of Mennonite history, highlighting Anabaptist roots and discussing the key beliefs which unite all Mennonite groups. Specifically, it explores issues such as pacifism, education, gender roles and the impact of cultural and faith values.
