For young adults (18+) who have a disability or are an ally for the disability community.

Event: August 30 - Sept 2 - 101st Annual Buxton Homecoming
3 months agoFriday August 30th - Monday, September 2nd, events will be held to honour the 101st Buxton Homecoming. The 2024 theme is Celebrating the Music of Buxton.
Originally held to encourage former residents to return home to visit Buxton as part of a picnic, the event now sees over 4000 visitors from across Ontario and the US gather to celebrate heritage through music, sports, and a variety of fun activities.

New Program: Become a Dementia Friendly Business
4 months agoThe Chatham Alzheimer Society is rolling out a new initiative throughout Chatham-Kent. The program is called “dementia friendly communities” and the goal of the program is to give Chatham Kent businesses the skills and knowledge to better serve our dementia community. After a 1-hour education session with our education manager, your business can become certified as a dementia friendly supporter. With this designation you will receive a special decal for your display and advertising on the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent’s website and socials. The TOCK Committee is inviting cultural associations, businesses, and community groups to showcase their culture during the TOCK celebration this summer. And inviting community to participate.
Proudly founded and organized by the Taste of Chatham Kent committee in partnership with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
Events run from Jul 27th until September 30th, 2024.

Event: August 29 2024 International Overdose Awareness Day - Save the Date
4 months agoInternational Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is the world's largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died and acknowledge the grief of family and friends left behind.
The theme for 2024 is "Together We Can", highlighting the power of our community when we all stand together.
Join events in Chatham and Wallaceburg on Thursday, August 29th from 3-6PM. More details will be announced soon.

Event: Emancipation Day Celebrations
4 months agoOn Saturday, July 27th from 9:30AM - 3:00PM, join the Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History for Emancipation Day — an annual celebration of hope and freedom to commemorate the end of slavery in the British Empire.
Everyone is welcome to this free, fun and educational event featuring music, presenters, children's crafts and food. The day celebrates the cultural and racial diversity of Canadian society, highlighting the fundamental roles of people of African descent in shaping Canadian identity and heritage. It also fosters dialogue to support the full and equal participation of Black individuals and communities.
