Free virtual lunch series exploring Truth & Reconciliation at the Local Level
The Town of Oakville is proudly partnering with Grandmother’s Voice again to present Planting our Seeds 2.0: Resurgence of the Indigenous Voice. This series celebrates Indigenous culture and community, as well as encourages critical discussions about historical and contemporary issues facing Indigenous Peoples.
Led by local urban Indigenous leaders, the first virtual session of Planting our Seeds 2.0 begins Wednesday, November 9 from noon to 1:30 p.m. to coincide with Treaties Recognition Week. Speaker Faith Hale will launch the series by opening up conversation about treaties, as well as the current climate of Urban Indigenous Voices and matters within Halton and Ontario.
Offered Wednesdays from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Zoom, Planting our Seeds program agenda include:
- Wednesday, November 9 with Faith Hale: Treaty, what does that mean? Part 1
- Wednesday, November 16 with Faith Hale: Treaty, what does that mean? Part 2
- Wednesday, November 23 with Grandmother Renee
- Wednesday, November 30 with Chandra Maracle
- In-person Heritage Walk/Orange Crosswalk - Wednesday, December 14 with Robbie (Roberta) Hill and Dawn Hill from Survivors' Secretariat.
Some of the anticipated learning and discussions include:
• Land and Treaty Acknowledgement
• Examining the current state of urban Indigenous members of the community
• Community discussion around the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action
• The resurgence of Indigenous voice, resiliency and culture
• Seeking reciprocity, community accountability and responsibility
