The Municipality of Chatham-Kent and the Municipal Heritage Committee have initiated the Built Heritage Public Policy Project. This initiative will lead to the development of a public policy that articulates Chatham-Kent’s aspirations for the preservation of its rich and diverse built heritage resources.
Informed by a varied and multi-faceted community engagement process, the public policy will define the community’s vision, goals and objectives related to built heritage and provide a framework for decision making as individual heritage matters are considered over time.
The public policy will also provide the basis for the creation of a Built Heritage Strategy in the future, which will identify some of the more specific programs, projects, resource needs, and legislative tools to further support vision, the goals and objectives of the public policy.
As a first step, a survey has been developed to understand the community’s general sentiment towards the preservation of Chatham-Kent’s built heritage and gain community input on some more specific topics that will need to be considered during the development of the policy.
