The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has received a renaming application from the Mitchell’s Bay Area Association to rename the Dover Beach in Mitchell’s Bay to the Mitchell’s Bay Beach.
The following rational was provided in the application:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent will be replacing the sign for branding purposes
“Mitchell’s Bay Beach” promotes tourism and the uniqueness of the area
Provides continuity of Mitchell’s Bay Signage
Mitchell’s Bay Beach found in Mitchell’s Bay on Lake St. Clair
Water tower says “Mitchell’s Bay”
Provides consistency in language when the Mitchell’s Bay Area Association applies for Federal, Provincial, Municipal, and private grants
Increase to safety when calling CK Emergency Services for an accident on the beach, in the water or in the park, the Emergency Responders would know exactly where to go

Renaming of Dover Beach is currently at this stage
Council approved the renaming of Dover Beach to Mitchell's Bay Beach at the April 3, 2023 Council Meeting. The signage at the beach will be replaced once the new sign is ready.
