In partnership with the St. Clair Student Representative Council (SRC), Indigenous Student Services presents Treaties Recognition Week: Wampum Belts with Elder Garry Sault.

Through symbolism and interpretation, wampum belts were made by various groups as a visual way to help tell stories, and convey and recall significant historical events and messages, including treaties. Additionally, wampum belts signified the oral agreements between Indigenous peoples and the Crown.

In honour of Treaties Recognition Week, Elder Garry Sault from Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation discusses wampums, oral traditions and storytelling, and how they all connect to treaties and the law of the land.
