Lamila Street Reconstruction

Scope of the Project

This project consists of the reconstruction of Lamila Street, from Jane Street to Mary Street in the community of Thamesville.

The Project will include the following work:

• Roadway – reconstruction of the existing roadway (reducing width from 8.5m m to 8 m) and replacement of the concrete curb and catch basins

• Sidewalks – replacement and widening of sidewalks to meet AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) standards, including an extension of the sidewalk at the intersection of Mary Street and Wallace Street

• Restoration – replacement and regrading of driveway approaches and restoration of boulevards with topsoil and sod

Construction is planned to begin in Summer 2025 and road work is expected to be complete in Fall 2025. Some of the restoration of the grassed boulevard areas may also happen in early Spring 2026.

Access to all properties and the Thamesville Area Central School will remain open during construction.

Parking Changes

As part of this project, there will be changes to the parking restrictions on Lamila Street. To enhance road safety and create a more accessible street for all users, parking will be restricted to one side of the road. Here is why these changes are necessary:

• Efficient Traffic Flow – limiting parking to one side on straight roads helps maintain smooth two-way movement and reduce congestion

• Safe Turns for Large Vehicles – snowplows, garbage trucks, and emergency vehicles need enough space to turn safely, especially in winter maintenance period

• Enhanced Safety for Students – Preventing vehicles from stopping on West side of the Lamila Street prevents sight obstructions and ensure students can safely enter and exit the school premises
