This project is the next phase in a multi-phase approach to the separation of sewers within the Community of Chatham, and focuses specifically on infrastructure renewal on Cox Avenue and Faircourt Avenue.
Scope of Project
A combined flow sewer currently services both Cox Avenue and Faircourt Avenue. Combined flow sewers accept both sanitary flows (generated by each resident from bathrooms, showers, tubs and laundry sources) as well as accepting stormwater from properties and the municipal road allowance. With the renewal of infrastructure along Cox Avenue and Faircourt Avenue, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent will undertake the installation of dedicated, separate storm and sanitary sewers sized to current design standards.
Specifically, the project is expected to include the following:
Sewer separation - Removal of existing combined sewers and manholes, and combined sewer service connections;
Storm Sewer - Installation of a new dedicated storm sewer and manholes, catch basins and storm sewer service connections to the property line;
Sanitary Sewer - Installation of a new sanitary sewer and manholes, and sanitary sewer service connections to the property line;
Roadway - Widening of the roads, replacement of existing road base and asphalt pavement, and construction of new concrete curb;
Sidewalk - Construction of new sidewalk along one side of the road, on both Cox and Faircourt;
Pedestrian Crossing - Upgrade to the existing pedestrian crossing on Delaware Avenue near Cox Avenue;
Restoration - Replacement and regrading of driveway approaches up to the property line as required, and restoration and regrading of boulevards areas up to the property line with topsoil and sod.
Construction is anticipated to form part of the 2025 construction season.
Proposed Sidewalk Location
New concrete sidewalks are being proposed on the south side of Cox Avenue and the east side of Faircourt Avenue. This alignment provides the safest connection to the existing sidewalk network and pedestrian crossing on Delaware Avenue. Additional information can be found on the drawings available in the Documents Section of this page.
