Community Risk Assessment & Fire Master Plan Review
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is developing a Fire Master Plan (F.M.P.) and Community Risk Assessment (C.R.A.).
To comply with Ontario Regulation 378/18: Community Risk Assessments, which came into effect on July 1st 2019, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is required to develop a C.R.A. prior to July 1st, 2024. This regulation requires municipalities to use a community risk assessment to inform decisions about the provisions of fire protection services. The C.R.A. will use risk conclusions to inform comprehensive analyses of the existing, and future fire protection services needs of the Municipality Chatham-Kent community through the development of a Fire Master Plan.
The F.M.P. is a strategic document that will guide Council for the next ten years in providing effective and efficient fire protection and emergency services in Chatham-Kent. The F.M.P. will be informed by the C.R.A., legislation, industry best practices, Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services personnel and community input.
The Fire Master Plan will aim to enhance the use of the Three Lines of Defense model to support fire risk reduction and mitigation. The three lines of defense are:
Public Education and Prevention;
Fire Safety Standards and Code Enforcement; and,
Emergency Response.
