The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is developing a Climate Change Action Plan to create local benefits for residents, businesses and the Municipal organization by saving energy, reducing costs and managing climate-related risks such as flooding, heatwaves, and extreme weather events.
Why Develop a Climate Change Action Plan?
In 2019, Council issued a climate emergency declaration that called for the identification of cost-effective actions to address the local impacts of climate change. Council’s 2018-2022 Strategic priorities also call for the creation of a climate plan for Chatham-Kent. The project was paused for about a year during COVID-19.
How the Plan will be developed:
There are three main parts to the plan creation process:
Gathering Information
Establishing Priorities
Identifying Actions
The information-gathering part included completing a number of background studies. These studies are available in the document library.
The second part was focused on establishing priorities for the plan. Council's priorities for the climate change action plan is available in the document library.
The third part involves identifying actions to address the priorities established in the second part. Your input will help identify those actions.
The Survey:
The survey is now closed.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts and ideas. The input you provide will be compiled and shared with Council.
