What is Food Insecurity?

Household food insecurity (HFI) is the inadequate or insecure access to food due to financial constraints. It is rooted in poverty: inadequate and insecure income, and material deprivation. Material deprivation is when people cannot access and meet their basic needs for living. Household food insecutiy is used interchangeably with "food insecurity" throughout the report.
